GCSC is developing Soma, a smart climate control platform that makes existing heating installations efficient without renovation or upfront investment, delivered as a single subscription covering hardware, installation, software, and service.
The problem
SMEs, schools, and healthcare organisations in ageing utility buildings are falling behind on sustainability. Classical retrofits are technically feasible but blocked by high CAPEX, disruptive construction, and lack of service, so buildings responsible for roughly 14% of Dutch CO2 emissions stay stuck on inefficient heating.
Scope · GCSC
A plug and play control layer, combining wireless sensors, smart radiator valves, and a boiler gateway on a Zigbee hub, driven by a predictive algorithm that uses weather, occupancy, and building thermodynamics to hold every room inside its comfort band at minimum energy.
Full stack delivery
- Smart hardware: Zigbee sensors, smart radiator valves, and CV gateway installed directly on existing radiators and boilers, with no rewiring and no downtime.
- Predictive control: an optimisation algorithm combining weather forecasts, occupancy, and building dynamics, heating only when and where it's needed.
- Cloud monitoring: remote tuning, real time energy and CO2 dashboards for facility managers.
- Subscription delivery: installation, software, and maintenance bundled. CAPEX becomes OPEX, savings start day one.
- Validated impact: targeted 20 to 30% reduction in heating energy use without comfort loss.
